One of the joys of sizing down has been getting an electric scooter. Ours is a Vectrix. Cruising during Labor Day weekend on Pacific Coast Highway is like riding a Harley Davidson in a cool 1960’s chain gang, except it’s silent and peaceful. You feel at one with nature, the waves, the sun, and the salty air. And it also kinda feels good knowing you don’t need to rely on any of that middle eastern oil.

We cruised around Santa Monica and hit some of our favorite lunch spots, Kreation (best juice bar), True Food Kitchen (best healthy salads), and Marmalade (best picnic lunch to-go). We ventured up the coast to Paradise Cove in Malibu and Scott did some SUP (Stand Up Paddling) with his Laird Hamilton board.

We are still learning how to park the Vectrix. Is it free in Santa Monica because it’s an electric vehicle? Not sure. Should we take up a parking space? Or should we squeeze it in-between two cars? Should we take a ticket when entering a parking structure? As far as valet parking goes, we’ve learned that we need to park it next to the valet stand, or wherever they tell us to, and we pay the full valet fee. They usually laugh.
The Vectrix goes about 30 mph and we can get up to 40 miles on a single charge. So, no freeway driving for us. Just the open road, the wind, and the silence……..
